I was one of those unfortunate souls who got into Faith No More's music in late 1997/early 1998 after hearing "Last Cup of Sorrow" and "Ashes to Ashes" on the radio (and catching the videos on MTV2). Almost as soon as I fell in love with "Album of the Year", Lou Brutus on Hard Drive Radio informed me (and probably tens of thousands of others) that FNM was no more. I was gutted; but the breakup also had the odd side effect of me pursuing the band members' side projects and rare material to devour any FNM-related material I could get my paws on.
During my senior year of high school I put together a career encompassing two CD live set of songs that I obtained through various file sharing programs and videos that I traded. I gave it to several of my friends, who probably rolled their eyes and (maybe) listened to it once. Ten years later, I still dig it out all the time.
Billy, Puffy, Mike, Roddy, and Jon: you guys have no idea how much this reunion means to me. So whatever your motivation: thank you. Your music remains a big part of my life and a huge part of rock history...your music and stage presence continues to amuse, ingrigue, and inspire. I am confident that if you can keep it together beyond the European tour that you will be pleasantly surprised at just how receptive the public is to your reformation.
That said, I am going to try to create a semi-realistic "dream" set list that I would love to see (please come to Maine...or at least within a few hundred miles!)
Here goes nothing:
1. Epic (Why not kick off the set with a song that normally closes the show? It would throw everyone off and be a great way to show that you're not messing around.)
Follow that up with a little banter, maybe mess with the crowd a little.
2. Introduce Yourself
3. Last Cup of Sorrow
4. As the Worm Turns
5. Digging the Grave
6. We Care A Lot
Flowing right into...
7. Surprise! You're Dead!
8. The Gentle Art of Making Enemies
9. Everything's Ruined
10. Falling to Pieces
11. Absolute Zero
12. Cuckoo For Caca
13. The Crab Song
14. Jizzlobber
15. Helpless
16. King For A Day
Encore:
17. Caffeine
18. Ashes to Ashes
19. From Out of Nowhere
Second Encore:
20. Easy
21. Midlife Crisis
22. Pristina
Maybe you could put this video up for me since I was beaten to the punch by Everything's Ruined. :-)

Hey Travis- how about a copy of the 2CD mix you made?! I don't know if I have anything you don't, but I'd be happy to trade you a copy of any of my bootlegs for a copy of your live set. Let me know: androgeny@excite.com
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Robert
Yeah, that would be cool. I'll drop you an e-mail...
ReplyDeleteDon't you think that "trading" is a tad bit anachronistic and pointless in this day and age? Why not just upload this 2CD mix to rapidshare or something, so everyone could enjoy it?
ReplyDeleteDude, I barely ever even copy CD's anymore. Just doing this as a favor to another fan. Besides, I'm sure you've probably heard a lot of what's on there. Some even comes from Brixton '90. Got these tracks on Napster, etc. 10 years ago.
